Wandering fresh green leaves in Kyoto on May 25th, 2020.
I visited many fresh green leaves viewing points in the North-East of Kyoto with my bicycle.
I will introduce Yase Momiji-no-komichi, Rurikoin temple, Sekizanzenin temple, Manjyuin-monzeki, Enkoin temple, Hachidai shrine, Shugakuin imperial villa and others.

It’s a promenade in a maple forest.
It’s on the way to the ropeway station to Mt. Hiei and to Rurikoin temple

Rurikoin temple

No.2 on the map is Rurikoin temple.
It’s famous for the maple leaves reflecting on the lacquered table of its tea room.
The entrance fee used to be 500 yen.
Then the template became famous, and now the entrance fee is 2000 yen…
It was closed because of the corona virus.
Mikage shrine

No.3 on the map is Mikage shrine.
It’s an auxiliary shrine of Shimogamo shrine, a world heritage, its foundation date is unknown.
It’s a quiet and relaxed shrine hidden in the forest.

Sekizanzenin temple

No.4 on the map is Sekizanzenin temple.
This sub-temple of Hieizan-enryakuji temple, a world heritage, was founded about 1100 years ago.
It’s a famous autumn leaves viewing spot, but also a big temple with many things to see.

Manshuin-monzeki temple

- Comment:A temple related to the Japanese royal family
No.5 on the map is Manshuin-monzeki temple.
It was founded about 1200 years ago and its name “monzeki” means that its chief priests were members of the Japanese royal family.
It’s famous for its zen garden and beautiful autumn leaves.

Enkoin temple

No.6 on the map is Enkoin temple.
It was founded by the general “Tokugawa Ieyasu” in 1601.
There are many things to see: autumn leaves, a zen garden, a Japanese garden, a bamboo path and more…

Hachidai shrine

No.7 on the map is Hachidai shrine.
It’s a shrine related to the famous swordsman “Miyamoto Musashi”.
“Miyamoto Musashi” visited this shrine before his battle in Kyoto.

Shugakuin imperial villa

No.8 on the map is Hachidai shrine.
It’s a shrine related to the famous swordsman “Miyamoto Musashi”.
It was build by a retired emperor about 400 years ago.
You need a reservation to go inside the villa.
I could reserve on the same day as it was not so crowded.
There were about 20 visitors and 3 guides.
There are 3 different areas, each with its own buildings and garden.
The buildings and gardens are not so luxurious, but I felt that they are very elegant.
It took about 1 hour and 20 min to see the imperial villa.
Summary
It took about 5 hours and 30 min from No.1 to No.8 on the map with my bicycle.
There are not so many train stations in the area, so it’s better to take the bicycle to see viewing spots more efficiently.
There are many rental bicycle shops in Kyoto.
