Cycling in Kyoto on May 30th, 2020.
I visited viewing spots in south part of Kyoto with my bicycle.
I’ll introduce Fujimori shrine famous for its hydrangea flowers, Gokonomiya shrine, Ujikami shrine, a world heritage, Fushimi area famous for many Sake breweries .

First, I went to Fujimori shrine at No.1 on the map.
Fujimori shrine is founded about 1800 years ago by the Japanese emperor.
There are about 3500 hydrangea flowers and famous for hydrangea viewing spot.
It enshrines a god of horse and it’s famous among horseracing fans and those involved in the horseracing world.
It was May 30th, the hydrangea flowers had just started to bloom.
I took photos for about 20min.
Gokonoiya shrine

- Comment:Spring water of good smell
After Fujimori shrine, I went to Gokonomiya shrine at No.2 on the map.
It was founded more than 1100 years ago.
The name of shrine “Gokonomiya” means good smell shrine because there was spring water of good smell.
The spring water is one of the best 100 waters in Japan.
The decolation is good in this shrine.
The spring water did taste good.

Ujikami shrine

After Gokonomiya shrine, I went to Ujikami shrine at No.3 on the map.
It’s a world heritage and it was founded about 1000 years ago.
Its main hall and worship hall are national treasures.

Fushimi

After Ujikami shrine, I wandered around Uji and went to Fushimi.
This is Byodoin temple, a world heritage, No.4 on the map.
I’ve been there before, so I took photos from outside.
This is Mimurotoji temple, famous for hydrangea viewing spot, No.5 on the map.
I’ve been there before and it was closed because of the corona virus.
This is a tea plantation in Uji.
Uji is famous for its green tea called ”Ujicha”.
Tea reaves under black cover are called “Gyokuro”.
It’s more tasty and expensive than normal tea.
The ships are famous pleasure boats in Fushimi at No.6 on the map.
They were suspended by corona virus.
This is Teradaya hotel at No.7 on the map.
A famous Samurai “Sakamoto Ryoma” was attacked here.
This is Kizakura museum at No.8 on the map.
Kizakura is a sake brewery.
There are some sake brewery around here, but others were all closed by the corona virus.
I wanted to drink many kinds of sample sake…
There was no sample sake here…
I bought Kyoto local beer made in Kizakura, although Kizakura is big sake brewery.
The beers were a bit expensive, but they were not special taste.
Summary
It took 6 hours and 41km distance and 240 m difference in altitude for this cycling.
If you don’t like cycling, you can go these places by trains.
If you like cycling, please try to go these many viewing spots by bicycle.
There are many rental bicycle shops in Kyoto.
