Wandering fresh green leaves in Kyoto on May 5th, 2020.
I visited many fresh green leaves viewing points in the center of Kyoto with my bicycle.
I will introduce Nanzenji temple, Eikando temple, Honenin temple, Sinnyodo temple, Kamigamo shrine, a world heritage, Shimogamo shrine, a world heritage, Imamiya shrine and Daitokuji temple, Kenkun shrine and others.

Nanzenji temple

No.1 on the map is Nanzenji temple.
It is the head temple of an important branch of Buddhism called Rinzaishu and famous for its historical buildings and beautiful Japanese gardens.
It’s also a famous cherry blossoms and autumn leaves viewing spot, one of the most popular park in Kyoto.
The Hojo building in the temple is a national treasure.

Eikando temple
- Time:30 min〜

After Nanzenji temple, I went to Eikando temple at No.2 on the map.
It’s one of the most popular autumn leaves viewing spot in Kyoto.
It was closed because of the corona virus.
I took photos for about 10min from outside of the temple.
Honenin temple

After Eikando temple, I went to Honenin temple at No.3 on the map.
It was founded in 1680.
It’s not popular, but very beautiful.

Sinnyodo temple

After Honenin temple, I went to Sinnyodo temple at No.4 on the map.
It’s famous for its beautiful autumn leaves.

Shimogamo shrine

After Sinnyodo temple, I went to Shimogamo shrine at No.5 on the map.
Its date of foundation is unknown, but it already existed more than 2000 years ago.
The East and West main hall are national treasures.
This is Tadasu-no-mori forest in Shimogami shrine.
It is a big shrine so I went around with my bicycle and took photos for about 15 min.
Kamigamo shrine

After Shimogamo shrine, I went to Kamimogamo shrine at No.6 on the map.
Its date of foundation is unknown, but it is said to be one of the oldest shrines in Kyoto.
Honden and Genden hall are national treasures.

Imamiya shrine

After Kamimogamo shrine, I went to Imamiya shrine at No.7 on the map.
It was founded about 1000 years ago and is called the shrine to marry into the purple.
It was not so big, but the atmosphere was good.

Daitokuji temple
- Time:15 min〜
- Cost:Free
- Recommendation:80%
- Comment:Related to Sen-no-rikyu
After Imamiya shrine, I went to Daitokuji temple at No.8 on the map.
It was founded about 700 years ago and is related to Sen-no-rikyu, a master of the tea ceremony.
There are 24 sub-temples in the temple, but it’s not allowed to go inside most of them.
Many of the sub-temples have beautiful Japanese gardens.
I took photos for about 5 min.
Kenkun shrine

- Comment:Shrine on a small mountain
After Daitokuji temple, I went to Kenkun shrine at No.9 on the map.
It was founded by the emperor in 1869 and enshrines the famous samurai “Oda Nobunaga”.
It’s on the top of a small mountain and takes about 5 min to visit.
I took photos for about 20min.
Summary
I took about 5 hours and 30 min to go from No.1 to No.9 on the map with my bicycle.
There are not so many train stations in the area, so it’s better to take the bicycle to see viewing spots more efficiently.
There are many rental bicycle shops in Kyoto.
